In June 2025 the World Bank raised its extreme poverty line to $3.00 a day in 2021 prices. On that line about 10% of people, roughly 800 million, live in extreme poverty in 2025, down from about 38% in 1990. Progress has slowed sharply since 2019. On the old $2.15 line the 2024 figure was about 8.5%.
