How fast are forests disappearing?

10.9M ha/year

Planet

The world lost about 10.9 million hectares of forest a year to deforestation in 2015 to 2025, down from 17.6 million a year in the 1990s. Regrowth offsets part of it, for a net loss of about 4.1 million hectares a year, roughly the area of Switzerland. Total forest area has fallen about 4% since 1990.
