About this test
The module works in foot length, not shoe size, because sizing systems disagree with each other and with themselves. Mean foot length is 26.5 cm for men (SD 1.3, about US 9 or EU 42) and 24.0 cm for women (SD 1.2, about US 7 or EU 38). Enter a size and it converts to centimetres first.
Feet are tightly distributed. A man with 29 cm feet (around US 12) is above about 97% of men; a woman at 26 cm (around US 10) is above about 95% of women. Sources: Jurca et al. (2019), Footwear Science; Hawes and Sovak (1994), Ergonomics.
What is the average shoe size for men?
Mean foot length is 26.5 cm, which is roughly US 9, UK 8 or EU 42. One SD is 1.3 cm, about one shoe size. Source: Jurca et al. (2019), a study of over a million 3D foot scans.
What is the average shoe size for women?
Mean foot length is 24.0 cm, about US 7, UK 5 or EU 38, with SD 1.2 cm. Half of women fall between 23.2 and 24.8 cm.
Is a size 13 big?
For men, US 13 is about 30 cm of foot. That is around the 99.6th percentile (mean 26.5, SD 1.3), roughly 1 in 250 men. Shops stock it rarely for a reason.
Percentiles above come from the same parameters the Shoe Size module uses. See the methodology for how they are calculated.
