How fast is the Milky Way moving?

The Milky Way is moving at about 2 million km/h (roughly 600 km/s) relative to the cosmic microwave background.

Source: Kogut et al. (1993), Astrophysical Journal.

Context

About 600 km per second, or 2 million km/h, relative to the cosmic microwave background, the afterglow of the Big Bang that fills the sky.

Kogut and colleagues measured it in 1993 from the slight warming of the background in the direction we are heading. There is no absolute rest frame, but the background is the closest thing the universe offers.
