Measured sneezes are slower than legend says. High-speed imaging found peak exhalation speeds around 4.5 m/s (about 16 km/h), far below the '160 km/h' figure that circulates online. The cloud of droplets can still travel several metres, up to about 8 m for the smallest droplets, which is why sneezes spread infections so well.
