What is the most common name in the world?

Muhammad (est. 150M+)

Social

No reliable global name register exists. Muhammad and its spellings are widely estimated at 150 million or more bearers, because of the Muslim tradition of naming sons after the Prophet; this is an extrapolation from national data, not a count. Among women, Maria and its variants are usually ranked first. Within single countries the data is far better: in England and Wales, Muhammad was the top boys' name in 2023.
